Let’s talk about…World Lindy Hop Day

The World Lindy Hop Day (WLHD) initiative was the brain child of Sing Lim and was supported by the board of the Frankie Manning Foundation.

The aim was to inaugurate an annual event that would embrace the legacy of Frankie Manning, bringing his vision to a wider public. Just weeks before the first event was set to happen, it was cancelled. This came as a shock to many, but to a few it was inevitable. Unfortunately, it also came at a personal cost to those involved.

The Lindy Hop Community has grown exponentially from a local cottage industry to a global community over the past 5 – 10 years. As a Global Lindy Hop Community, how do we manage this type of situation? What effect does it have on us, (if any) as individuals, local communities, teachers etc.? We will be considering these and other questions that have arisen around the world in the short time since the cancellation of WLHD.

  1. A BIG THANK YOU

To all who attended last night’s 1st edition of The Swing Debates to make it a success. Old faces and new joined to discuss the topics that are relevant to the Lindy Hop and our Global Community. And what a topic to start with – World Lindy Hop Day.

To Sing and Ryan who made special efforts to be there last night. Considering their personal involvement in the subject, their professionalism led the way for the discussion. Their unending support of the Lindy Hop combined with their openness gave the discussion a great degree of authenticity, and this helped The Swing Debates to set off on a strong footing. I also thank them for their support in this initiative and my projects over the years.

To Peter and Paul who even though were not able to make it, spread the word about the event.

To the newbies who hung on in there 😉 To the oldies who still care. ❤

A Special mention to Joaquim and Sophie for the filming, photography and room set-up.

It was amazing to find out how far people had come from around London to join the debate. Proof of what the Lindy Hop means on a human level.

Here's to moving forward in clarity. #diversityandtogetherness

Provisional date for the 2nd edition: Tuesday 8th September.
